They Passed It

Mexicans welcomed $400 million in anti-narcotics so-called assistance today, Friday, in that sketchy bill we were dishing about a bit back.
Though they did trim off $100 million from Señor Bush’s request, the wingnuts on Washington passed the blunt bill last night.
Good old Calderón has already let the dogs out. Tens of thousands of soldiers were sent throughout the countryside to fight the narcoterroristas and to end the affair they’ve been having with local authorities over the decades.
Jorge Chabat, an expert on narcotics trafficking - lord knows what that means, says:
“My impression is that the goal of the war is not to eliminate drug trafficking from the face of Mexico — that’s impossible. “The Calderón strategy seems to be to fragment the drug cartels and reduce the violence. That goal is at least possible.”
We hope Jorge, we hope.
