Supreme Court Bans The Gun Ban in DC

The Supreme Court ruled against the District of Columbia’s ban on handguns today, saying the ruling would threaten gun-control measures in other states.

That sound you hear is Mayor Greg Nickels of Seattle running to hide his gun-free executive order under his pillow.

In the 5-4 decision, Justice Scalia wrote:

“The Constitution leaves the District of Columbia a variety of tools for combating that problem, including some measures regulating handguns. But the enshrinement of constitutional rights necessarily takes certain policy choices off the table. These include the absolute prohibition of handguns held and used for self-defense in the home.”
