35.9% More Join Georgia’s Unemployed
The Georgia Department of Labor has announced 45,553 laid-off workers filed first-time claims for unemployment insurance benefits in June — a 35.9 percent increase over June 2007.
The total number of people on unemployment benefits was up 46.7 percent over the year, from 55,450 in June 2007 to 81,321 in June 2008.

Gov. Christine Gregoire released 3 years of her family’s federal income-tax returns yesterday. The Gregoire’s total income for last year was $180,179 -that includes her salary and her husband’s pension. The family paid $32,443 in total taxes (sheesh) and made $9,260 in charitable donations.

NYC Investing $2.3 Billion To Reduce Greenhouse Gases
New York City will commit $2.3 billion to cut greenhouse gases put out by municipal buildings and operations to cut this pollution by 30 percent in 2017, Mayor Michael Bloomberg said today (Monday).
